Police statement in full as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is arrested

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, was arrested Thursday morning in his home, Wood Farm, in Sandringham. The 66-year-old was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Here’s the police’s full statement.

At least six unmarked Thames Valley Police cars drove onto Wood Farm on Andrew’s 66th birthday this morning. An hour later, cops announced he had been arrested.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. According to the BBC, police have also conducted searches in Norfolk and Berkshire.

Dal Babu, former Metropolitan Police Chief Superintendent, told the BBC that pressure has been “growing and growing” over the last few weeks.

He said that by arresting Andrew, police will be able to “access computer equipment, files, photographs, any other evidence.”

The Thames Valley Police released a statement after Andrew Monutbatten-Windsor was arrested. They said it was assessing a complaint over the alleged sharing of confidential material with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Police statement in full:

“As part of the investigation, we have today (19/2) arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.”

“The man remains in police custody at this time.”

“We will not be naming the arrested man, as per national guidance. Please also remember that this case is now active so care should be taken with any publication to avoid being in contempt of court.“

“Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said: “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.

“‘It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence.”

“‘We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.’”
